Theme: Central or dominate idea
Extends beyond the story and applies to the world outside of fiction Readers background knowledge, values and beliefs play a part in determining theme

How to find a theme Title Narrators or characters statement
Arrangements of events Central conflict Point of view (unreliable narrator) Symbols (names, places literary devices) Changes in a character

Plot – The way in which the events in a story are arranged.
Protagonist – Principle character in a work of fiction. Usually the person trying to accomplish something Antagonist – Character who is on conflict with the protagonist

Conflict – The struggle between opposing forces.
Narrative Arc – the trajectory of the conflict. The high point is the crisis the end is the resolution.
