2. Bible Centered Every lesson is Bible story based
Kids use their Bibles every week
Spark is Bible based.
Each week, all the children will explore the same Bible based story. Each age level advances the story so it continues to grow with them.
PreK-2nd graders will read a their lesson from their Spark Story Bible. Extra Bibles will be in their classrooms for them to look at as they read the story.
3rd, 4th & 5th graders will use their Spark Bibles every week and will grow more comfortable in using their Bible, highlighting passages that are meaningful to them and marking up their Bible with notes. 3-5 graders are expected to bring their Bible to class. . 2

3. Our PreK-2nd children are at very different reading levels
Our PreK-2nd children are at very different reading levels. A few simple tools can help you keep the children engaged:
Before you read the story, ask what they see in the picture
Remind them that these stories are about God’s people
Ask how do you think the people in the story are feel? Ask how would you feel?
Retell the story after it is read.
Repetition helps us to be better readers and to really learn what we read.
Asking questions helps us to talk about the story and what our thoughts are about it. Helps us to develop critical thinking skills.

4. 3rd – 5th grade teachers: As you look up the Bible story, have your students look up the story.
Example: Genesis 1:6-9
Start with Genesis is in the Old (front half) or New Testament (back half)
Remind them what section of the Bible we are in or where the Book of the Bible is in terms of order (Genesis is in the Pentateuch and is the very 1st book in the Bible).
Then help them look for that orange chapter number.
Next, look for the small grey number (remind them that the 1st verse is never marked, it just starts).
Avoid giving out page numbers. We really want to help our children understand how to use their Bible and look up passages.

5. Take the time to really dig into the Bible story.
Don’t worry about everything else you have planned.
We want our children to be comfortable using their Bible.
As parents, we want them to turn to their Bible to help guide them in life.
We want our children to know the story of God’s people, in their heads and in their hearts. 5
