Grindalsmoen groundwater supply system Location
Elverum groundwater supply system is located at Grindalsmoen just north of Elverum on the west bank of river Glomma. The waterworks supply about 14’500 people from 4 wells. Each well has a capacity of about 60l/s. The aquifer is large and the water quality, the water temperature and water level are stable. However, the water contains too high concentrations of iron and manganese. This is removed «in-situ» by the Vyredox method. Removal of iron by the Vyredox method In the Vyredox method, each production well is encircled by a set of recharge and oxidation wells (see control panel in upper left picture). By oxygenation of the water that is pumped from the main well and reinjection of this water through the recharge wells, the redox conditions are changed so that iron precipitates in-situ. Read more about the Vyreox method in: Halmberg, R.O. and Martinell, R. (2006): Vyredox – In Situ Purification of Groundwater.
