2 The Story of “Goin Fishin”
Get ready to go fishing! Just like Reenie and Mama went fishing and Pigeon and Mr. Troup went fishing, you are going to go fishing as well! But this is a little different. In order to keep fish, you must correctly answer questions while moving your game piece along the board. But look out! If you get a bite and answer a question incorrectly, you cannot move ahead on that turn. If you do answer correctly, you may move ahead one space. Be the first to get back to shore with the most fish and win! Home Page

3 Game Directions The goal of the game is to move along the board and catch the most fish. To play the game you have to spin the spinner and move your piece appropriately along the board. Draw a question and follow the instructions on the card according to whether or not you answer correctly or incorrectly. To win the game you have to get to the end with the most number of fish. Everyone will get to the end and the player with the most fish wins (not necessarily the one that gets there first). Return

4 Game Preparation The following game pieces should be printed on cardstock and cut out and laminated: Fish, slides 5 and 6 Game Pieces, slide 6 Spinner, slide 9 The following game pieces should be printed on cardstock and cut out: Game Board, slides 7 and 8 Arrow for Spinner, slide 9 Question Cards, slide 10 Home Page

9 1 2 3 4 Cut out arrow and attach with a brass brad where the lines intersect on the spinner. It is a good idea to laminate the spinner square as well, to prolong its use.

10 Questions Cards: only one is needed per game or group of students.

11 Rules of the Game Youngest player starts. Spin the spinner and move along the game board. Follow the instructions on the square. Player to the left of the youngest player goes next, and the turns continue to rotate around the group. If a player is on a square that is in the path of another player, the passing player should skip that square as if it were not there: If questions run out for a certain type of fish, simply choose another fish and continue to play accordingly. If a question is answered correctly on the first time collect 3 fish. If it takes 2 or more times to answer it correctly, collect 2 fish. Player 2 Player 1 1 2 (Player 2) Player 2 needs to move 2 spaces. .

The youngest player starts. Spin the spinner and move your piece the number of spaces the spinner indicates. Choose the fish below that is the same as the fish under your game piece. The player to the left of the youngest player will go next, and will continue around in a circle rotation, where each player goes once. Grade Level This game is appropriate for late kindergarten and first grade. The questions range in level of difficulty. Subject Area Objectives This game is intended to be used when doing a unit on marine biology or science and animals. Students should be able to: Identify sea animals Know basic facts of fish and sea life in general (food, environment for living, noises animals make, etc) Count and do basic addition and subtraction; work with money Identify colors (fish, boats) Apply reading skills (including spelling and grammar) to sea life facts. At the conclusion of the game, students should be able to grasp the identification of colors and numbers, basic concepts of counting through addition and subtraction, English skills such as grammar spelling, and comprehension, and the basic facts of marine life.
