Look at the 4 photos below and using sociological research rank the students from best to worst in terms of educational attainment. You must be able to give valid sociological reasons for your answer i.e. supported by studies Stretch and challenge: Who, according to research is the least likely to be doing what you are doing right now?

AO1 To understand that ethnicity impacts educational attainment(D) AO2 To apply understanding of sociological studies into reasons for differential attainment, and school experience according to ethnicity (C) AO3 Evaluate research studies into ethnicity and educational attainment B upwards The exams will measure how students have achieved the following assessment objectives. • AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures. • AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures: • in a theoretical context • in a practical context • when handling qualitative data • when handling quantitative data. • AO3: Analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information, ideas and evidence, including in relation to issues, to: • make judgements and reach conclusions • develop and refine practical design and procedures.

3 Your task 1) Watch the video clip carefully and note down the external and internal factors that are at work in differences in attainment due to ethnicity (Don’t worry about catching each scholars name and details, we’ll go over them all in more detail later on)

4 Getting the scholars in..
1) Read the hand out carefully 2) Answer the 14 questions on your sheet. Do this in detail and in full sentences 3) : Now create a revision poster on ethnicity and educational attainment, which summarises all the key information on to one A3 page. You need to think how you can make it memorable, and relevant!

So what order do they come? For GCSE’S? Who is likely to perform best overall? (from primary right up to A level? Stretch and challenge: Who, according to research is the least likely to be doing what you are doing right now?
