3 Levels, 6 Stages Level 1: Premoral Stage 1 : Punishment & Obedience
Meaning: small children who can not learn how to speak clearly and don’t understand commands Or don’t understand the concept of right and wrong.
6
Cont’d Stage 2 : instindividualisme and exchange.
Meaning: in a sence of bribery. If children do sertin good things, people will be good to them. For instance, if the parent wants the child to do the right thing they will bribe them with candy, a movie, ice cream etc. “youll only do some thing that’s right, if there's something in it for you”
7
cont’d Level 2 Stage 3 : Conventional.
Meaning: Peer pressure. People are concerned about being accepted by there social group. Fitting in the ‘cool people group’. So they do what the groups expected behavior is. Ex: Jim was a worker in the food court and skips steps in product testing. He knew what he was doing was wrong, he knew that it was against the policy, but he was willing to do it because his immediate group, like the ‘other guys’ where doing it and it was considered alright. But it really wasn't.
8
Cont’d Stage 4 : the view of the whiter society.
Meaning : your own decisions about good and bad, right and wrong. Ex. If you respect the law you’re a good person. If you don’t respect the law your considered a bad person. It’s the society that determines what's legal and illegal and that determines what's good and bad.
9
Cont’d Level 3 : the Post conventional
Stage 5 : Contractual orientation Meaning: Our differences from others. People have there own moral principals. Also have differences with other people. Even though some people are different from each other, we still talk reasonably with each other to try and find some thing that other people can all agree on.
10
Cont’d Stage 6 : The morality of individual principles of conscience.
Meaning: Being independent. If you believe in something you'll go for it no matter what it takes.
