National Career Service Creative Skillset UCAS website – finding courses/requirements Includes degree apprenticeships information Researching what jobs are out there Consider our local colleges for courses: Stafford Walsall South Staffs Task 1 is based on finding the career and details about it using the National Careers Service website. Task 2 is using the UCAS website to start to think about the possible courses at University that may be of interest (even if at this stage they may wish to rule out University). The purpose for both is to generate discussion.

Tips / getting yourself ready
Employers want to see skills and interest. Show a track record of interest and get involved whilst you can (less busy!)

Application forms: Do: Check for spelling and grammar mistakes
Avoid cut and paste – make specific for the job Get someone else to re-read the information Research about the company/apprenticeship/job – use in your form Keep a record of training/key skills/ examples USE EXAMPLES – get into the interview – give them something to ask

Interviews Do: Think about any questions/specific questions they could ask Prepare the answers you want to give Remember EXAMPLES Think skills ( Include information you know they will find useful Have any questions you want to ask? – think carefully about them.

Importance of further study based on all students now studying Post16.
For Universities and employers, GCSEs are a guide to a candidate’s work ethic. Value is placed on breadth of study University courses entry requirements make reference to GCSEs Problems of recent government announcements. Slipped grades = missed opportunities in the future (eg Working abroad) Lower Points score = block certain A Levels Lower A Level target grades = less appealing to employers and Universities
