3 Sustrans Bike It Plus Project- Holistic approach involving pupils, parents & teachers over three years; Focus on intensive engagement and relationship building (10 schools per year); Bespoke programme of events and activities for each school; Establishing a culture of active travel through School Champions; Reinforce change and success – School Mark Accreditation Scheme

4 Local results: Luton: Pupils regularly cycling increased from 5
Local results: Luton: Pupils regularly cycling increased from 5.5% at baseline to 12.3% at the end of year 2. Peterborough: Pupils regularly cycling increased from 16.5% at baseline to 22.3% at the end of year 2. East Central Bedfordshire: Pupils regularly cycling increased from 3.7% at baseline to 7.6% at the end of year 1.

5 Sustrans Active School Neighbourhoods Project: Based on community led street design principles; helping the school & community to reimagine and redesign their streets; Inclusive and interactive engagement; Gradual, phased change – temporary trials to demonstrate potential benefits of permanent change; Often low cost interventions can have a big impact.

6 Granton School in Streatham, London: Issue: Illegal parking on the yellow zig-zags outside the school; Traffic congestion; Conflict as parents queued at the school gates; 10 collisions between Solution: Six month engagement project; resulting in installation of large planters & Street Art Results: Term-time traffic counts show traffic volumes on Granton Road have dropped by 44% compared to the year before the planters were installed; 70% reduction in traffic speeds – average now 11mph outside the school gate.
