Due process of law! The Constitution guarantees you certain rights that protect you from being treated unfairly by the government

The Amendments 5th Amendment= Prohibits national government from violating due process rights

14th amendment- prohibits state and local government from violating due process rights

From the Bill of Rights No search and seizure- the police MUST have a warrant

No self-incrimination- a person has the right to remain silent

No double Jeopardy- a person cannot be charge twice for the SAME CRIME

More Right to a lawyer- the state will pay for one if a defendant cannot afford one

Impartial jury- 12 unbiased people will hear evidence and decide if someone is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt

No cruel and unusual punishment

No excessive bail- the mail money a person has to pau must fit the crime

Equal protection under the law! Equal protection clause

Protects people; ie minorities, challenged, gender or any other characteristics that may cause discrimination
