5. From Republic to Empire
After the ‘Ides of March’ the Roman Republic was hit with constant civil war.
Caesar had an adopted son, Octavius.
Marc Antony, Octavius, Lepidus formed an alliance called the Second Triumvirate.
Antony divided the Republic: Antony in the east, Octavian in the west, and Lepidus took Africa.
Eventually, Lepidus was forced from power and exiled to the south of Rome.

7. The rise of Augustus
Octavian was awarded the semi-divine name Augustus.
He had large armies, lots of land and kept Egypt as him homeland.
He declared himself, Chief Priest of Rome, otherwise known as ‘Pontifex Maximus’.
He garnered power among the people and portrayed himself as a descendant of Venus herself.
At the time, Julius Caesar was deified (to make God of).
Augustus in the Greek world was worshipped as the new Zues.
With almost unrelenting power, the Roman Empire is born as he was the first Roman Emperor.
