It is believed the supercontinent Pangaea began to break up about million yrs ago, eventually fragmenting into the continents as we know them today.

If u look at the continents carefully u can see how the continents look as if they would fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.
South America would slot in very neatly to Africa.
There is also other evidence that in the past all the continents were joined together.
For example identical fossils have been found in different continents thousands of kilometers apart

For these things to be possible the continents must have moved. The continents have very slowly moved spread apart.
