Saprophytic: absorb their food from decaying matter (decomposers)
External digestion (animals etc. have internal digestion)
Have cell walls (made of chitin)
Live in moist environments

6. 2. Uses Keep the forest floor clear
Make trees and plants grow faster (lichens)
Food for humans (bread, cheese, wine, medicines)

7. 3. Saprobes Fungi can’t digest foods within their bodies.
Thus, fungi release digestive enzymes into the immediate environment
Enzymes break down dead organic matter.
Fungus then absorbs digested food through their cell walls.
