MTSS POLICIES

Dress Code Student workers are expected to look presentable while on duty. Casual dress is allowed. Examples include: Jeans Shorts Sweatshirts Appropriate t-shirts Closed Toe Shoes Inappropriate attire for work includes: Plain white t-shirts Unkempt clothing Tank tops/ muscle shirts Cut off shorts, or jeans with holes Open Toe Shoes, such as Sandals and Flip Flops When working a special meeting or live event, students may be required to dress in a more professional manner. ID badges must be worn at all times by student workers while on duty.

Scheduling Before the semester begins, the Supervisor and Student Manager will create a work schedule for each student, keeping in mind the students’ academic and extracurricular schedules. Students are expected to work their shifts completely. Use the ListServ as the primary means to call out and to offer hours to other students to cover.

Scheduling Absent students must find coverage for their shift, otherwise they will have to show up to work. Not showing up will result in a write up. Use the ListServ as the primary means to call out and to offer hours to other students to cover. Students should provide 24 hours notice for their absence. If students are sick, 24 hours is not required, but constant ‘sick’ call outs will not be tolerated. Group projects, professor meetings, etc. are not acceptable reasons to call out. These plans can be made in advance with the student’s work schedule in mind.

Vehicle Usage Students must ALWAYS carry their driver’s license when operating a campus vehicle. Seatbelts must be worn by all front seat occupants. When driving on Metzger Drive, it is expected that students obey the speed limit of 25 mph. Students are expected to keep the vans clean. The vehicles must remain locked when not in use. Department Vehicles are not to be used to go anywhere off campus or be used for personal reasons.

Vehicle Usage Non-MTSS staff members are not permitted in the vehicles at any time. On internal campus sidewalks, students are expected to obey the speed limit of 5 mph. Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way. Students must be aware of pedestrians while driving on the sidewalk. Students must use hazard lights when driving on sidewalks. MTSS is not responsible for any traffic violation a student receives while driving a MTSS vehicle, these violations are the responsibility of the infractor.

Break Time If a student works at least a 4 hour shift, they will be allotted a 15 minute break. At the discretion of the Student Manager and/or full time MTSS staff members, student workers may be permitted to leave the office to get food from close venues such as the Education Café, Library Café, and Armstrong Food Cart. These students may leave to get food from these venues with the permission of the Student Manager and/or full time MTSS staff. Students may leave the office to do so for a maximum of 15 minutes. Going over this time limit can result in disciplinary action. Students are permitted to leave the office for food only if there are no jobs to be done and no Help Desk calls to be addressed.

Break Time In special cases, students may be permitted by the Student Manager and/or full time MTSS staff members to go to Eickhoff Hall to eat in the dining room. Students must clock out if going to Eickhoff to eat. Only one student is permitted to go to Eickhoff at a time. Students may not use MTSS vans to go to Eickhoff. They must walk. Students are permitted to be in Eickhoff for a time limit of 30 minutes. Going over this time limit can result in disciplinary action. Students are permitted to leave the office to go to Eickhoff only if there are no jobs to be done and no Help Desk calls to be addressed.

Faculty/Staff Checkout
Equipment for faculty and staff is available on a first come, first serve basis. All requests for portable multimedia are to be made via the Media Equipment Reservation System with at least 48 hours notice. Portable equipment can be picked up from Forcina 113. Check out paperwork MUST be filled out completely by the student worker prior to releasing the equipment to the faculty/staff member. Faculty and staff who check out media equipment are responsible for that equipment. Media equipment is not to be left unattended or unsecured in a classroom or office.

Student Checkout Students can come to Forcina 113 and check out camcorders, tripods, and digital audio recorders All equipment can be checked out for a 48 business hour period. If a student goes over the 48 hour period, they will be charged $1 per day, per item. Fines are to be paid in CASH only. If equipment is lost/broken, the student is responsible for the replacement costs of the equipment. If a student wants to check out any other equipment not listed in the first bullet, a faculty/staff member must check it out on their behalf.
