Sacking of Lawrence May 1856 – 800 slavery supporters attacked the town of Lawrence, the antislavery capital.

John Brown John Brown retaliates
He vowed to, “strike terror in the hearts of the proslavery people” He believed God had chosen him to end slavery. He and his 4 sons kill 5 supporters of slavery. Never arrested for these murders. Northerners support his actions.

Bleeding Kansas More violence follows
Kansas known as “Bleeding Kansas” or the Civil War in Kansas October 1856 the new territorial Governor used 1300 federal troops to stop the fighting.
