1 Narrative writing

2 Personal Narrative A narrative is a written account of events either real or imagined.

3 Personal narrative Choose a significant event in your life that describes an important choice you made. (This could be a good or a bad choice.) Create a sequence of events to include within the narrative. (Think of what happened before and after the life event. Point out significant influential people within the narrative. Explain the consequence either good or bad of your choice. How did this choice affect you in the long run? Use dialogue and figurative language to make writing pop.

4 CODE WORD: “TAKE OFF” “Code word: ‘Take off!’ and we all just dip!” I replayed the plan in my head at least 25 times as we boarded the Georgia Cyclone ride at Six Flags. My heart thumped like a snare drum as the ride slowly took off. It wasn’t that I afraid of what lied ahead of the ride, for this was my 3rd time riding the ride today! I was afraid of what lied ahead after the ride was over. My friends and I had devised a plan to steal the mini picture projectors from the Six Flags photo booth. We all agreed that we were in this together and that after we left the Georgia Cyclone ride, we would go over to view the pictures. Upon viewing the pictures, we would all get one and when Lance yells “Take off! We all just dip” pictures in had and all. I had never stole anything before and I wasn’t looking forward to becoming a thief, however, it was known how easy it was to take these pictures. Besides, $7 was far too much to pay for a picture especially after paying $35 to get into the park. “What am I thinking?” I thought, I have a season pass, and it was free!” I checked my pockets and noticed that I still had about $13 of spending money. As we were approaching the booth, it was becoming hard to swallow, suddenly my saliva felt like stones going through my throat. “Ok everyone is going to do it, so I might as well.” “I don’t want to look lame” Here goes. As we are all viewing the pictures the echo of the words “Take off” graced my ears, however my body would not move. There I was standing, still as a statue while 5 of my friends were making a dash for their lives. I looked up at the young girl behind the booth with eyes of deep apology, took out the $13 bucks, threw it on the desk and ran. Soon I caught up with my friends all wailing from the great run. “Did you get yours?” my friend asked. “Yes I did” “that was close!” I said. I never told my friends until years later that I actually paid for my picture and left a pretty hefty tip as well. I knew I had a choice to make and I went with my heart and not my mind.
