BACKGROUND Consultative Group of Experts on national communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) Decision 5/CP.15 contain its current mandate and terms of reference To improve the process of and preparation of national communications from non-Annex I Parties, by providing technical advice and support to non-Annex I Parties

Item 2(b) of the CGE mandate, i.e. “Provide recommendations, as appropriate, on elements to be considered in a future revision of the UNFCCC “Guidelines for the preparation of national communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention”, taking into account the difficulties encountered by non-Annex I Parties in the preparation of their most recent national communications”

4 THREE MAIN OBJECTIVES 1. Identifying and assessing the difficulties, challenges and problems encountered - Survey - Information contained in recently submitted NAI national communications 2. Exchanging views on possible elements to be considered in a future revision of the UNFCCC guidelines for NAI national communications 3. Providing recommendations, as appropriate, on elements to be considered in a future revision of the UNFCCC guidelines for the preparation of national communications from non-Annex I Parties This CGE workshop is certainly NOT the forum for negotiating any new guidelines.

5 Day 1: Discussions and exchange of views
ORGANIZATION OF WORK Plenary presentations and discussions, as well as break-out group discussions Day 1: Discussions and exchange of views Day 2: Continuation of sharing of best practices and lessons learnt, and in-depth exchange of views in thematic group discussions on the UNFCCC Guidelines Day 3: Report back and exchange of views from the thematic group discussions and the way forward

6 MATERIALS FOR THE WORKSHOP
I. Background material for workshop to exchange views on possible elements to be considered in a future revision of the guidelines for the preparation of national communications from non-Annex I Parties II. CGE survey results on identifying and assessing the difficulties, challenges and problems encountered by non-Annex I Parties in using the UNFCCC guidelines in the preparation of their most recent national communications III. Qualitative compilation of lessons learned and good practices for reporting in recently submitted national communications
