New Teaching Fellow Orientation August 28, 2015 Robinson (Wally) Fulweiler Department of Earth and Environment Department of Biology

2 Now What? Three primary perspectives/needs to consider:
2. The Professor you’ll teach for. The Students you’ll teach. 3. You.

3 What the Students You Teach Need and Deserve:
Be Fair  Treat all students the same

4 Be Responsible  This is your job and students grades (future) depend, at least in part, by what you do and don’t do.

5 Be Knowledgeable  You don’t have to know everything – but you should know the material you’re teaching, know it cold.

6 Be Honest  It’s ok if you don’t know the answer, but not ok to make the answer up.

7 Be Patient 

8 What the Professor you’ll teach for Needs and Deserves:
Be Helpful  Have an idea on how things can run more smoothly? Offer it. Love to photocopy and organize – do it! Want to organize a grading party – make it happen!

9 Be Trustworthy 

10 Be On-time 

11 Be Positive  (code for no attitude)

12 Be Patient 

13 What You Need and Deserve:
Be Disciplined 

14 Be Motivated 

15 Be Dedicated 
