1 Year 10 Subject Selection – Media

2 Course Description This unit explores and identifies the specialized content and skills related to the mass media. Students develop skills in critical analysis through close examination of media texts, media institutions and production processes. Students also research film directors and analyse their work discussing story elements, production elements and related social and cultural relationships.

Students work individually to learn about the language of film and the production elements. They also work collaboratively in groups of 3 to 4 to complete filming activities. “A Day in 60 Seconds” and the “Three Minute Thriller” are the 2 major filming activities. A Day in 60 Seconds-  This activity is an introduction the world of the "Movie Director" and cinematography.  There are four parts to this activity culminating in a 60 second movie. Suspense- Students explore the genre “suspense” and produce a “3 minute Thriller” Cinematography Activity Script Writing Narrative Structure Suspense Activity Suspense Film Pre-Production Production Post Production Film Analysis

4 Subject pathway…. Media is a very popular subject in units 1-2 as well as 3-4 at Nagle.

5 Extra activities/costs?
Excursions have occurred in the past: Trips to exhibitions and workshops as well as field trips. They do not incur additional costs.
