What is diffraction? Diffraction is a phenomenon which happens when a wave encounters an object. It also occurs when waves go into a small opening and spread out or bend.

Wave Lengths and Width of Opening
When the wave length is increased, the wave becomes larger. As the gap size equals the wavelength, the diffraction increases, so the wave spread out.
