About him Otto Wagner was an Austrian architect and teacher
He was based in Vienna, Austria His most significant buildings were built between 1883 to 1912 Throughout his time he was one of the most influential modern architects. He is referred to as the Father of Modernism in Architecture

Style/meaning Wagner advocated the breakaway from historical architecture and became a founder of modern European architecture. His early works were in the Neo-Renaissance style. Other styles he has used include, Art Nouveau and modern architecture style. Wagner created very functional buildings for everyday use.

Key works His most significant and well known building was The Royal And Imperial Post Office Savings Bank which was completed in 1906. It has metal structure covered with marble slabs and sconces aluminium reinforced concrete slabs. The walls were built of brick and then coated. There was no large bearing walls, allowing complete flexibility for the various functions of the bank. The use of many windows to allow light and ‘air’ into the building.
