STEP 1: Find a comparable poem for the question. What are their similarities? STEP 2: Find the differences between the poems. STEP 3: Set your argument in your introduction STEP 4: Decide which is better for your conclusion.

Find the differences BC: Individual --- ‘terror’s touchy dynamite’ --- alliteration/personification (first person narrative – first hand account) Reality of being consumed by conflict CLB: Collective (harsh realities war ---- unity/satire ‘brave’ ‘hero’ --- killed) (third person – parents, the painful traumatic impacts that conflict has on children, conflicted hero or a victim) Identity is transformed into becoming heroic – ironic, the poet was mocking this in reflect on his father’s experiences 4. Evaluate which is better: Conclusion - Charge of the Light Brigade – more effective as the language is more subtle/satirising
