John Brown Attacks Harper’s Ferry
John Brown was an ABOLITIONIST—He believed slavery should be Illegal everywhere, even if it took violence to get rid of it. He was Also probably mentally ill. Wanted to lead a raid to start a slave revolution in the South. October 16, 1859—Brown leads 18 men in an attack on the armory At Harper’s Ferry, Virginia. Planned to take the weapons and give them out to slaves to free themselves. But 2 days later, Brown and his men were surrounded by a unit of US Marines led by Robert E. Lee. 10 of Brown’s men were killed, Brown was Captured and hung.

Election of 1860 Lincoln won the election with only 40% of the
Vote, but he won larger Northern states . Lincoln (Republican)-Slavery should NOT spread To the territories in the west. Breckinridge (Southern Democrat)-Slavery Should be permitted in the territories. Douglas (Northern Democrat)-Popular Sovereignty in the territories.
