Objective The objective is to better understand the prerequisites and dynamics of the resource base for Nature-Based Tourism and to identify sustainable ways to develop resources and valuable resource combinations. 3 resource types: (i) natural bio resources (i.e. wildlife) (ii) cultural resources (landscapes, installations, and processed resources (local food etc.) (iii) tourism infrastructure and knowledge. 3 sub-tasks Landscape Resource Analysis – NMBU/ILP
Analysis of cultural resources, infrastructure and knowledge – Centre for Rural Research Socio-ecological analysis and modelling – NINA and NMBU/INA PROTOUR Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet

Sub-task 1: Landscape Resource Analysis
PhD take most of the resources Tool for identifying resources in the landscape Landscape characterising Sense of place analysis Landscape as an inter-disciplinary arena (integrate the different parts of WP2) Landscape as an arena between experts, stakeholders, local residents, visitors and decision makers Develop the theory base The LRA approach in WP2 will address the following topics: (i) To what extent can LRA be developed as a suitable instrument for localized nature-based tourism providers in cooperation with other actors in the local community in order to identify important resources? (ii) What are the mental, social and cultural aspects of the LRA process when tourism providers engage with actors from the local community, facilitated by LRA experts? (iii) Applying LRA, to what extent can new and potential resources be recognized, identified, maintained, managed and developed through the process in order to develop new products in accordance with emerging demands within the bio-economy? (iv) What are the main challenges in developing the identified resources in relation to long-term resource maintenance, attractiveness for tourists, and synergies with the involved communities? Case study areas and themes
Case study areas: Varanger and Trysil-region Landscape characterisation Sense of place analysis (interviews, focus-groups, etc) Go deeper into one or more communities in each region Case study themes Path finder, but also some attention to Adventure, Event and Wildlife PROTOUR Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet

Sub-task 2: Analysis of cultural resources, infrastructure and knowledge
What resources do the providers de facto exploit in their tourism operations? How do the informants consider and assess resources? What items or entities could eventually become resources and in what combinations? PROTOUR Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet
9
Case study areas and themes
Varanger, Trysil-region, Indre Hardanger Interviews with a selection of businesses and actors in each region Case study themes: focus on two themes in each study area in coordination with WP4. PROTOUR Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet
10
Sub-task 3: Socio-ecological analysis and modelling
Modelling of risk-of-resource depletion using existing data sets for key wildlife species for wildlife viewing (i.e., marine mammals, sea-birds) and angling tourism (i.e., salmon, grayling and cod) supplemented with tourists’ and entrepreneurs’ assessment of resource impacts. Model and identify resource resilience and thresholds for sustainable Nature-Based Tourism activities, including how regulations (harvest regulations, access regulations) can maintain sustainability and increase value creation.
