Energy Brochure Information
Use the following information to help understand your project
2
Commercial Energy Commercial energy is power used by commercial entities, as opposed to residential, industrial, or transportation energy. Businesses like retail stores or auto dealerships are examples of commercial energy end users served by power utilities.
3
12.1 What Is Net Energy and Why Is It Important?
Total amount of useful energy available from a resource minus the energy needed to make the energy available to consumers Energy resources vary greatly in their net energy.
4
Only Net Energy Counts Scientists look at net energy as the best measure for determining the long-term usefulness of an energy resource. If a net energy is zero or is a negative number, the resource cannot compete in the marketplace. Need subsidies from taxpayers
5
What are sources of Non-Renewable Energy?
Any resource for which there is a finite or limited supply. Fossil fuels do not generate fast enough to meet our demand and use, because it takes millions of years to naturally form more. Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) and nuclear
6
13.2 What Are Sources of Renewable Energy?
Energy that is naturally replenished and that comes from the sun, flowing water, wind, Earth’s interior heat, biomass Renewable energy will be cheaper if we eliminate: Inequitable subsidies Inaccurate prices Artificially low pricing of nonrenewable energy
