Leave your stuff at your desk,
and line up in alphabetical order so we can pick up our The Things They Carried books

Warm Up 9/13 By now, we’ve established (enough of) a historical basis for our novel unit. So let’s move on to establishing an emotional basis for it. Google Classroom and find the Doc called the HONY soldiers project. Open it, and find your name next to one of the numbers. The person on that page is your person. Read over the passage of your person, and wait for instructions.

Interact With the Person and Be Creative!
Tasks to prepare (do in journal): Give your person(s) a name. Where does he/she come from? What are his/her primary interests? Did this person have a happy childhood? Explain. Give him or her some quirks: how do any/all of the responses from numbers 1-4 affect him or her? Why did he/she enlist in the military? If not, how is he/she involved in the military? What is the thing that this person enjoys the most about being involved in the war? The least?
4
Interact With Others! Walking around the room, find three soldiers/people (and the people pretending to be them can’t be your friends). As they will do the same to you, ask each person these three questions: How and/or why were you involved in the war? What sticks out the most to you from your war experience? What do you want others to know about it?

Take Aways What did you learn from this activity?
