Edgell (1980) conducted a study of 38 middle class couples and asked them who made the decisions in the house. He found that decision about; interior decoration, children’s clothes and spending on household items was mainly done by the woman. When it came to moving house, buying cars and other large financial decision – these were mainly done by the man. Education for the children and holidays were a joint decision.
