3 Bane (n.) A cause of great stress or annoyance
Miss H. has a hard time deciding which class is truly the bane of her existence.

4 Condone (v.) Support; allow; encourage The teacher knew Kevin
needed to pass the test to stay on the basketball team, but he couldn’t condone cheating, so he gave him a zero.

5 Emulate (v.) Imitate; strive to be equal
Cassie always tried to emulate her big sister’s actions.

6 Genre (n.) A category or type
There are many different genres of music, including hip-hop, rock, and country.

7 Incite (v.) To bring to action; to cause; to “spark” or “ignite”
Many enjoy making controversial comments on purpose to incite argument.

8 Perpetuated (v.) Caused to continue
The teacher’s positive reinforcement perpetuated the student to come in with a better attitude.

9 Rancor (n.) Resentment, bad feeling There has been a lot
of rancor between the friends ever since one of them lied to another.

10 Strut (v.) Show off; walk with swagger
Shawn attempted to strut past the girls with confidence, but slipped and fell on the ice.

11 Voluble (adj.) Talkative
Greg liked to skip class because the teacher was always so voluble that it gave him a headache.
