In Sweden we usually talk about ”the five big lakes” when we talk about lakes.
Vänern (5 648 km²)
Vättern (1 893 km²)
Mälaren (1 120 km²)
Hjälmaren (484 km²)
Storsjön (464 km²)

RIVERS
Through Sweden runs a variety of rivers, streams and creeks. They come in all sizes, 500 km rivers to small mountain steams.

MOUNTAIN STEAMS
Are you outside hiking in the mountains? Don’t worry about the water then. In Sweden you can drink water directly from the steams. And stay calm, no risk of pollution!

SEAS
Sweden is surrounded by 2 seas, the Baltic Sea and the Kattegat . But if we talk about seas, we also often mention the Gulf of Botnia, which actually is a part of the Baltic Sea.

THE BALTIC SEA
The Baltic Sea is about 413 000 km2 big and the maximum depth is 459 m.
Something that you may have heard about is the sinking of M/S Estonia, that took place in september The ship sank en route from Tallinn to Stockholm. 852 people died that night.

VÄTTERNRUNDAN
Vätternrundan, which has been going on for more than 40 years, is the largest recreational bicycle ride in the world. Every summer the race brings over participants to Motala (where they start and finish). The 300 km course follows the shoreline of the lake “Vättern”.
