2 Prayer of the St. Clare Health Club
Lord, I thank you for providing for all my health needs. I realize that my body and soul belong to You. Therefore, guide me daily to honor You by making nourishing choices for my body, mind, and soul. Make me strong and fully alive in You. We pray through Christ, Our Lord. Amen

5 Today’s topic: Protecting yourself during cold and flu season
What do you think this is? Today’s topic: Protecting yourself during cold and flu season

6 All colds and respiratory “flu” are caused by viruses
All colds and respiratory “flu” are caused by viruses. There are no cures, but there are some ways to reduce your chances of getting sick.

7 “Flu” stands for influenza
“Flu” stands for influenza. Unfortunately, someone misnamed stomach viruses “flu” and the name stuck. True “flu” is respiratory, not stomach-related.

8

9 Viruses spread easily!!! How should you sneeze?
Use a tissue, throw it away, and sanitize your hands. If no tissue, sneeze into your elbow, not your hand!! watch?v=3vw0hIs2LEg

10 Remember this saying!!

11 Prevent the “flu” with a flu “shot”
Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks later. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. We have no vaccines for the common cold.

12 Wash your hands to help stop the spread of germs!

13 Keep your fingers out of your nose, eyes, and mouth!
You are putting germs directly into your body when you do this! You are also getting germs on your hands and spreading them to others.

14 Avoid getting too close to people who are sick

15 Stay home when you are sick!!

16 Drink plenty of water! The first line of defense is the mucous membrane in the nose. This acts like a sticky flypaper to trap things like dust, dirt and bacteria and prevent them getting to the lungs. If you are dehydrated, the mucous membrane will dry out. When this happens, it is half as effective.

17 Keep your body healthy by eating healthy foods!

18 Get plenty of sleep! Zzzzzz…….

19 Educate others about what you learned
Spread the word, not the flu! Educate others about what you learned

20 Your turn to show what you know!!
Design a skit about how something you learned today 1 Or Make a mini-poster about something you learned today 2
