4. “Patient continuance”—cheerful endurance, patience and perseverance in one
Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls
Patience is a by-product of suffering (Romans 5:3-4)
Patience is found through study of God’s word (Romans 15:4)
Patience is a part of God’s nature (Romans 15:5)

5. “Well doing”—good works
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works…
Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha…this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did
I Timothy 2:10 …with good works

6. “Seek for glory and honor”—seek dignity and value
But they seek it through patience and good works
Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God

7. “Do not obey the truth”—again, with an intensifier
“Contentious”—provoking (with an intensifier); other translations: self-seeking
Galatians 5:20—one of the works of the flesh
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory…
“Do not obey the truth”—again, with an intensifier
John 3:36; Acts 14:2, etc…—translated “believeth not”
“Unrighteousness”—injustice, that which is self-evidently wrong

8. “Indignation”—quick, violent passion
“Wrath”—smoldering passion, with a mind for vengeance
This is God’s reaction to contention and unrighteousness
“Tribulation”—pressure, crowdedness
“Anguish”—narrowness of room
Notice this is upon “every soul of man that doeth evil…”
ESV—“There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil…”

9. When you consider:
The subject of judgment
II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad
And the scope of judgment
Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil
