1 Are You Prejudiced? When one is prejudiced, typically the opinions he holds toward those who are different is a negative one. Condemned in Scripture [Jesus, admonishing the people who were speculating that He was evil because he healed on the Sabbath], (John 7:24), “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." Different types of prejudice, based on: Race Culture Nation Gender Age Education Economic Class Religion Prejudice - preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience

2 Bible Examples of Prejudice
Jews toward the Samaritans (John 4:9) Jews toward the Gentiles (Acts 10:28) Christians toward the Poor (James 2:2-9) (John 4:9), “Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.” (Acts 10:28), “Then he said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.” God’s laws concerning Jewish purity established the nation as His chosen people However, in Christ there is no distinction between the nations (cf. Galatians 3:28), “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (James 2:2-9), READ

3 Prejudice Among Us Today?
We can be guilty, judging on appearance (skin color, money) rather than righteous judgment (cf. John 7:24) Our speech can belie our claims of who we are! (cf. Matthew 26:69-75) Especially problematic with regard to matters of faith! (James 2:1) (John 7:24), “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.“ (Matthew 26:69-75) READ Peter’s words betrayed him (most probably his dialect as a Galileen differentiated him from citizens of Jerusalem) So many say, “I am not prejudiced.” (Us/Them dialogue; cultural biases; national, ethnic, economic pride) (Ex: Dismissing someone as not worth the effort to preach to because of economic situation, dress or education) Note: “how you were raised”, generation, culture (NOT AN EXCUSE! SUCH IS SIN!) (James 2:1), “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.”

4 Whenever we are guilty of prejudice or partiality we have sinned against God and our fellow man James 2:8-9 Romans 2:11 (James 2:8-9), “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” “There is no partiality with God” (Romans 2:11), and there must be no partiality (i.e., prejudice) in the hearts of His children! Conclusion
