11 Pronouns A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun.
A subject pronoun can be used as the subject of a sentence. Ex. They canceled the meeting because of bad weather. They is my subject pronoun. An object pronoun is the object of a verb or a preposition. It can be singular (him, you, I, me) or plural (us, you, them). Ex. Please give him my thanks for the lovely bouquet. Him is my object pronoun. A possessive pronoun shows possession. Singular possessive pronouns are my, you, his, her, and its; plural possessive pronouns are our, your, and their. Ex. Your teeth should be brushed at least twice a day. Your is my possessive pronoun. Some singular and possessive pronouns can stand alone: mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs. Ex. The pickup truck was ours. Ex. Wilma donated hers to the church bazaar.
