WHAT WILL WE LEARN TODAY?
Learn how ethos, pathos, and logos are used to persuade effectively by correctly identifying when an author uses these tools AND how/why they effect the reader. THEN – use these tools to effectively persuade others on a key issue. Ethos (appeal to ethics/authority
definition: the use of credibility to convince someone.

Ethos (appeal to ethics/authority)
you will see an expert in his/her field using their credibility to persuade. what it is not... a random opinion by someone with little or no expertise in a field.

Pathos (appeal to emotion)
This is when readers' or listeners' emotions are manipulated in order to persuade an audience to act, believe or behave in a particular manner. What it is not . . . a pure appeal to reason or logic

Facts or statistics that can be proven are void of emotion.

Logos (appeal to logic)
This is when reason, facts or statistics are used to strengthen an argument. What it is not . . . It is not emotional, irrational or an assumption.
