1 Spanish Inquisition

2 Ok, everybody outta the pool
Once the Reconquista was complete, the Spanish Catholics had retaken their country they began what is known as the Spanish Inquisition. Anyone believed to be of an alternate faith (to Catholicism) was put on trail and forced to convert or was killed. Muslims and Jews had the option of converting or being exiled Some decided to leave Spain, and some pretended to convert If they did not leave or convert, they were killed. Animaniacs Game show clip

3 Spanish Inquisition Several methods of torture were used to elicit the desired responses from the accused. (the rack, water cure). Water cure as a phrase for a form of torture refers to a method in which the victim is forced to drink large quantities of water in a short time, resulting in gastric distension, water intoxication, and possibly death. The inquisition lasted several hundred years and spread to the new world.

10 Spanish Worldview The inquisition had devastating impacts. It lasted nearly 100 years and spread into the NEW WORLD with Spanish Exploration. See more of this later…. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had firmly believed as Catholic Monarchs they had the Religious duty to convert as many people as possible to the Catholic faith Columbus used this as a way to persuade the King and Queen – the new lands would have people to convert Missionaries would be brought on every journey
