The Roman Republic was a model for modern governments. The Roman Empire dominated the region around the Mediterranean Sea for hundreds of years. Christianity caused a challenge to the polytheistic Roman religion. Patricians, plebeians, and slaves lived different lives in ancient Rome. Romans were interested in building things, compared to the Greeks who were interested in ideas. The Fall of Rome was caused by poor leadership, inflation, the size of the empire, mercenary armies, and invasions by foreign enemies.
