1 TRANSPORT OF CO2 IN THE BLOOD
DR AMNA TAHIR

2 Diffusion of CO2 from the peripheral tissue cell into the capillaries
CO2 can diffuse 20 times as rapidly as oxygen Intracellular PCO2 =46 mmHg Interstitial PCO2 =45mmHg PCO2 of the arterial blood entering tissue= 40mmHg PCO2 of the venous blood leaving the tissue= 45mmHg Effect of rate of tissue metabolism and tissue blood flow on Interstitial PCO2

3 Diffusion of CO2 from the pulmonary capillaries into alveoli
PCO2 of the blood entering the pulmonary capillaries at arterial end = 45mmHg PCO2 of the alveolar air = 40mmHg PCO2 of the blood leaving the pulmonary capillaries at venous end = 40mmHg

5 TRANSPORT OF CO2 IN THE BLOOD
4ml of CO2 is transported from the tissues to the lungs in each 100ml of blood Chemical forms in which CO2 is transported transport of CO2 in dissolved form transport of CO2 in form of bicarbonate ion transport of CO2 in combination with Hemoglobin and Plasma proteins
