Lev Semenovich Vygotsky
Lev was born in 1896 in Belarus. He grew up Gomel, Russia. He died in 1934.

His Theory His theory was that children learn and develop more from environment and interacting with the people around them. These involve cultural influences, mainly language, but also numbers, signs, and symbols shaped a person.

Stages of his theory Vygotsky focused primarily on the use of language. For him, language is both the most important mental as well as a medium facilitating the acquisition of other mental tools. He also believed that private speech(talking to yourself) is a large part of mental development. He said children use private speech a lot typically when facing challenging tasks which helps with decision making and problem solving.

Known For…? He mainly studied the social, emotional, and intellectual development of children to young adults. He also wrote books on his study of mental development and why he feels it is important.

Do we agree? We do agree because we both have seen this theory in our own lives. You see this theory in the way people act from different areas. You also see this in the way children’s parents have influenced them as well as your peers at school as they say, “You are who you hang with”.
