2 KS3 Assessment and Reporting

3 Expected Performance Pupils will be given an expected level of performance. Based on attainment at primary school and baseline tests. This can be moved up! Expected performance Description Platinum Students with the highest starting points from KS2 Gold The top of the middle attainers at KS2 Silver The bottom of the middle attainers at KS2 Bronze Students with lower starting points from KS2

4 Current Performance Each department have set the criteria that pupils with each expected level of performance should be able to achieve in year 7 and year 8. Teachers will use these criteria to assess pupils’ current performance. Current performance should be at least the same as expected performance. Current performance Description Platinum Students who are meeting the ‘Platinum’ criteria set by the department Gold Students who are meeting the ‘Gold’ criteria set by the department Silver Students who are meeting the ‘Silver’ criteria set by the department Bronze Students who are meeting the ‘Bronze’ criteria set by the department Working towards Bronze Students who are working towards but not yet meeting the Bronze criteria set by the department.

6 Progress We will also report on the progress pupils have made Progress
Description Outstanding progress Pupils that are making more than expected progress and will exceed expectations by the end of KS3. Pupils working above their target band OR pupils in the ‘Platinum’ band that are consistently achieving their target band and the teacher judges their progress to be outstanding. Good progress Pupils that are making expected progress and are on track to achieve expectations by the end of KS3. Pupils working in their target band. Working towards expected progress Pupils that are making just below expected progress but that may still achieve expectations by the end of KS3. Pupils working just below their target band. Less than expected progress Pupils that are not making expected progress and will achieve below expectations at the end of KS3. Pupils working below their target band.

8 The Walton Baccalaureate

9 What is the Walton Baccalaureate?
Each department has produced a number of criteria that encapsulate an exceptional learner in their subject in years 7, 8 and 9. Pupils that achieve this criteria are nominated by their teacher to achieve the Baccalaureate in this subject. Pupils who are nominated in four subjects achieve the Walton Baccalaureate Pupils who are nominated in five or more subjects achieve the ‘Walton Baccalaureate with Honours’.

10 What do pupils have to do?
Decide the subjects they want to complete the Walton baccalaureate in. Get the criteria from the Walton High School website. Meet the criteria! Show outcome to teachers.

11 Why do the Walton Baccalaureate?
Improving knowledge of the subject Developing the characteristics of an effective learner – effort, curiosity, self-motivated, independence, taking responsibility for your learning, skill development. Better prepared for your GCSEs, A Level, university, jobs. Enjoyment of the subject Challenge To be recognised for achievement.

12 The Criteria Art: Visit an Art Gallery. Take pictures of your favourite pieces. Choose 2 artists who use the same materials but in different ways. Compare their work. Make a piece of work inspired by an artist’s work that you saw in the gallery. Make your own Journal Art that records everything that you have researched and experimented with during the Baccalaureate. Include, drawings, sketches, material samples etc.…. have fun!

13 The Criteria Food Technology: Cook a product using home grown produce.
Take part in cookery competitions, workshops or a masterclass. Create a food product for someone in your family with a special dietary need. Visit a food exhibition, for example - the good food show or a farmers market. Research and present findings about how food could be sustainable; how food choices affect the environment; or how food wastage could be prevented. Take part in a charity bake sale.

14 The Criteria Science: Visit a National Park, Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), identify biodiversity of plants and animals. Photograph and identify species, using their real taxonomic names. E.g. Calluna vulgaris (common heather). Bring in your labelled photos. Research the life and work of a scientist e.g. Marie Curie. Bring in your findings to discuss. 3. Design and make your own effervescent bath salt using chemical ideas. Watch a science documentary and produce a one sided summary. Read a scientific journal/magazine such as New Scientist or National Geographic. Select, discuss and review an article you find interesting.

15 The Criteria Geography: Create a model of a river valley.
Create a video clip about crime rates in Holland and the USA. Visit an eco-system run by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust – how is it being managed? Create a textbook page about one issue in Geography that interests you. Write a review about a Geographical article based on a topic of your choice.

16 The Criteria PE: Improve on three results in the fitness testing (September/April). Participate in a minimum of two sporting clubs/teams. Watch a live sporting event (either in person or on the TV.) Review the experience giving a ‘highlights’ (photos/ video/ written commentary/analysis) Watch a Walton High School fixture and publish a report that can be used on the Walton High School Facebook page (photos/ video/ written commentary/analysis). Write an extended project about a sport of your choice. You should include a brief history, summary of rules/laws, scoring, positions, competitions etc.

17 FAQs Is the Walton Bacc only for the top achieving pupils?
Is there lots of written work? Does it have to be in any specific subjects? How many subjects do you have to do the Bacc in? Can you still get the Bacc if you haven’t done well in lessons? I don’t want to pester my teachers…
