The World Gift cow is one of CAFOD’s most popular gifts. The CAFOD cow, like many of the World Gifts, gives people living in some of the world’s poorest countries the tools and skills they need to help them earn a living.

3. This is Charles and he lives in Tanzania with his family
This is Charles and he lives in Tanzania with his family. In this picture Charles is ploughing his land with his two cows.
Before he received these cows from CAFOD, working on the land was difficult. He says: “It was such hard work before and it would take me so long that I would have to work all day in strong heat.”

4. CAFOD have helped Charles and his family by providing them with two cows. CAFOD have showed Charles how to work with the cows, how to best look after them, and have trained him in ploughing techniques. 4

5. “It wasn't easy to train the animals at first, but now I know how to work with them and they know me. “
Charles
Charles gets up very early at the coolest part of the day to plough with his cows. He says it wasn’t easy to train the cows but after a while the cows got to know Charles, and he learnt all about them. Now the work is much easier for Charles.
Having cows plough the land has made a huge difference to Charles’ life. When the work is done Charles has much more time to do other jobs and spend time with his family.

you gave the world for us all to live on,
a world of wonder, beauty and plenty
where no one should go hungry.
We pray today for the people who work hard in the fields
and for those who look after animals.
May the seeds that we give
grow and ripen under their care.
Lord, teach us to look after the earth
and to take care of our sisters and brothers around the world.
