Focus Question: What can you infer from pictures and maps about Colonial America (1607 – 1776)?
Do Now: Write down 5 things (people, places, topics) you’d associate with the origins of the United States.

IMAGE ACTIVITY With your group, look through the images. Do NOT write on them!!! Arrange the images into at least 4 categories of at least 3 images in each. In your notebook: Write a title for each category. Indicate (by letter) the images that belong in each category. Write a sentence and/or a question you have about each category.

Describe one category about Colonial America you created.
You can start with this sentence starter: “One important theme or topic that makes up the study of Colonial America is (name your category).” This is your CLAIM. Then: Describe the category in a general way. Provide details from the images to further explain your category. This is your EVIDENCE. Explain each piece of evidence. How do you integrate evidence when you write?
