10-1 Space Figures and Nets and Definitions for 10-3
Net – a 2-dimensional pattern that can be folded into a 3-dimensional figure
4
10-3 Definitions Polyhedron – a 3-D figure whose surfaces are polygons (flat) Each polygon is called a FACE. An EGDE is where 2 faces meet. A VERTEX is where 3 or more edges meet.
5
Prism – a polyhedron with 2 parallel faces called bases.
Lateral Faces – faces that are not the bases. Altitude – height of prism ( to both bases) Lateral Area – sum of area of the lateral faces Surface Area – sum of lateral area AND areas of bases
6
Lateral Area and Surface Area of Prisms
LA = ph (perimeter of base•height of prism) SA = LA + 2B (lateral area + 2•Area of Base)
7
Cylinder : Like a prism, but has circular bases

10-4 Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones
A Pyramid is a polyhedron in which one face (the base) is any polygon and the other faces (the lateral faces) are triangles that meet at a common vertex (called the vertex of the pyramid)
9
Altitude = Height Is the perpendicular segment from the vertex to the plane of the base. A regular pyramid is a pyramid whose base is a regular polygon and whose lateral faces are congruent isosceles triangles. The SLANT HEIGHT (l) is the length of the altitude of a lateral face of the pyramid
11
Pyramid ( ½ perimeter*slant height) (Lateral Area + Area of Base)
