2 How do you pass… John 5:19-29

3 I. Jesus Christ gives life to those who honor God (John 5:19-23)
Jesus does the works God alone can do (verses 19-22) “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” (verse 19)

4 I. Jesus Christ gives life to those who honor God (John 5:19-23)
Jesus does the works God alone can do (verses 19-22) Jesus said “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” (John 5:17) Understanding that Jesus was putting His work on par with God, the next verse tells us that “This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.” (verse 18)

5 I. Jesus Christ gives life to those who honor God (John 5:19-23)
Jesus does the works God alone can do (verses 19-22) Jesus gives life (verse 21) “For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.” (verse 21)

6 I. Jesus Christ gives life to those who honor God (John 5:19-23)
Jesus does the works God alone can do (verses 19-22) Jesus gives life (verse 21) Jesus exercises “absolute authority to judge” (verse 22) “In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge.” (verse 22)

7 I. Jesus Christ gives life to those who honor God (John 5:19-23)
Jesus does the works God alone can do (verses 19-22) The ultimate aim of Jesus’ works is that the Father and Son are honored (verse 23) The Father has given Jesus “absolute authority to judge” so “that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.” (verse 23)

8 II. The life Jesus Christ gives is eternal life to all who believe His message (John 5:24-27)
This eternal life begins “right now” for all who believe His message (verses 24-26) “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.” (verses 24-26)

9 “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
II. 10 II. The life Jesus Christ gives is eternal life to all who believe His message (John 5:24-27)

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

11 II. The life Jesus Christ gives is eternal life to all who believe His message (John 5:24-27)

12 III. The eternal life Jesus Christ gives will ultimately be a resurrection to eternal human life (John 5:28-29) This resurrection is a future resurrection (verses ) “an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” (verse 25) “an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life…” (verses 28-29)
