One-Point Perspective

What you used to know… PARALLEL

VOCABULARY Perspective: the method of creating three dimensions on a 2-D surface by giving objects depth receding to a point(s)

The Last Supper, Leonardo da Vinci 1495

VOCABULARY Vanishing point: the point where all receding lines converge Orthogonal line: a line that converges to the vanishing point

What are these? What is this called?

VOCABULARY If there is only ONE vanishing point where all orthogonal lines recede, then the image is in ONE-POINT Perspective

Notebook, 1500

What you used to know… PARALLEL

PRACTICE TIME! In your sketchbook…

2. Draw a small dot to represent the vanishing point
3. Draw orthogonal lines from the corners of each square to the vanishing point 1. Use your ruler and vertically draw (3) one inch squares with a 2 inch gap between each square 4. Draw lines parallel to the square to close off the space between the orthogonal lines

PRACTICE THESE ON YOUR OWN

Draw this composition in your sketchbook. Take up the whole paper.
Use the horizon line, vanishing point, and shapes provided to create the illusion of three-dimensional forms in space
