SCIENCE AND ICT HUMANITIES (History, Geography, RE) PE AND PSHE Animals Including humans – the circulatory system How does the circulatory system work and why is it important? Why do we need blood and what does it do? What is the function of arteries and veins? What food sources do I need to eat to keep my body healthy? Why is exercise important and what effect does it have on our bodies? Which foods/ cereal has the most iron? What does a real heart look like? How do the hearts of other animals work compared to a human heart? Computing – Data What data can I easily collect about the body? How can I present and analyse this using ICT? PSHE: Courage / Celebrating Differences Can I understand different concepts of ‘normal’? Can I understand how a disability affects someone’s life? Can I explain the ways one person can have power over another or a group? Do I know some of the reasons people use bullying behaviour? Can I give examples of people with disabilities who live amazing lives? I can explain how differences can be a cause of conflict or celebration. PE: Hockey & Outdoor Adventurous Activities Can we work as a team during hickey games? Can we send and receive the ball in a controlled way? Can we think tactically in relation to hockey? History: Who are the famous medical scientists from history? What did they develop and who does it help? What are scientists currently doing to develop medicine? RE Key Question: Why do some people believe in God? Find out about a famous scientist. Why is their discovery important? Get out, get active, get busy! Children should do 60 minutes of exercise every day. Record the activities you do for a week. How many minutes of exercise did you do? Try using a pedometer. How many steps did you take? Can we use varied and accurate grammar and punctuation in our stories? Can we use vocabulary that will interest the reader? What are the features of persuasion? Can we use these features to advertise Heatree to other schools and our Year 5s? Can we use figurative language in poetry? Can we write Christmas-themed poetry? Can I collect and plot data on a graph? What does the data tell me about how exercise affects the heart? How do I measure heart rate? How do the heart rates of different animals compare? Why do they differ? Can we describe the properties of shapes? What calculation do we need to solve a problem? Can we work in a logical order to list all possibilities? Learn, learn, learn your times tables and the division facts associated with them. Can you multiply fractions mentally? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) Can I appraise the work of Leonardo da Vinci? Can I draw faces and humans to the correct proportion? Can I make a detailed diagram of the human heart? Which foods contain iron? Can we improve a basic recipe to make it healthier? Keep reading! Make notes of good words or sentences that have an effect on you. Are they funny? Scary? Sad? Find examples of persuasive texts. What do you notice? Read the news- are there any key medical breakthroughs? Look at different examples of heart art. Which recipes are good for your heart? Why? Can you design and make a healthy recipe that will increase your intake of iron? Take your pulse rate through the day and plot it on a graph (you could do this on paper or using the computer). What do you notice about your pulse rate at different times of the day? Compare your family’s pulse rates. What do you notice?
