2 GENERAL INTRODUCTION Hungary is a member state of the European Union, a parliamentary republic and a member of NATO. It borders with, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Austria and Slovenia. The capital and main city is Budapest. The inhabitants of the mountain range above There are various types of religion including Christianity, Catholics and Orthodox.

3 LANDMARKS Szentendre is a city located along the Danube, in the province of Pest, in Hungary, about 20 km north of Budapest. The city is known for its numerous museums and art galleries. Other places to visit are: Matthias Church, St. Stephen's Basilica, Fishermen's Bastion and Buda Castle

4 THE CULTUR Hungarian mythology includes myths, legends, folk and fantastic tales of the Hungarian people. A large part of them have been lost, so only a limited number of texts can be classified as myths, despite this the Hungarian mythology has been recovered with some success over the last hundred years. The most important sources for this recovery work were: Folklore. Many mythological characters have remained in popular tales, pagan rituals have been turned into Christian or otherwise popular feasts. Medieval chronicles and similar works concerning Hungary. Writings on Hungarians (or Magyars) produced by non-Hungarian authors (mainly before the year 850). Archeology has helped to rebuild religion. The Hungarians were converted to Christianity only in the eleventh century
