Baiji has many names in English
Chinese river dolphin Yangtze River dolphin Whitefin dolphin Yangtze dolphin Because it was regarded as the goddess of protection by local fishermen and boatmen in China. And it also has a beautiful nickname: Goddess of the Yangtze
7
However, Baiji started to disappear since the 20th century
In 2002, there was less than 50 of them. And the number was still decreasing!
8
Even they have probably died out now!
Now Baiji has not only been listed as a wild animal with national-level protection, but also became one of the world's twelve most endangered animals! Even they have probably died out now!
9
The extinction of Baiji is caused by HUMAN BEINGS!
Fishing Pollution
10
Because of too much fishing, no more food is available for Baiji.
So many of them died of hunger…
11
And their environment is being polluted by the waste water from medicine factory.
12
Even worse, Baiji is considered as the first
kind of cetacean mammal that is ‘wiped out’ by humans.
14
But is Baiji the only victim???
15
If the environment keeps going worse, these lovely creatures will disappear in 10~15 years.
16
And these……
17
We can’t see them any more, even for one chance……
18
If nature can not provide them with suitable habitats, we human will be ‘wiped out’, too……
19
To protect animals is to protect ourselves!
No wild life, no human beings!
