15 Action Verbs and Subject-Verb Agreement
Action verbs tell the action of a sentence. The action may be physical or mental. Ex. : Myles made a cheese pizza (physical action). I wish you could be here (mental action). Subject-verb agreement: The verb being used must agree in number with the subject (noun) of the sentence. If the subject (noun) is singular, use a singular verb. If the subject is plural, use a plural verb. Ex. The girl flips the pages. The girls flip the pages. When a sentence contains a compound subject (two or more nouns) connected by the word “and,” use a plural verb. Ex. The truck and the bus stop at railroad crossings. If the subject and the verb ar seperated by a word or words, be sure that the verb still agrees with the first subject. Ex. The scanner, as well as two printers, is broken.
