CHAPTER 1 The NJ Driver License System
If a person under 18 moves into NJ with an out-of-state Driver License, are they allowed to drive in NJ?

To drive in NJ you must carry / have:
a valid driver license, probationary license, or a validated NJ permit Current vehicle registration Proof of valid liability auto insurance

Any changes must be reported to MVC
New address within NJ– ONE week Moving to NJ from out-of-state - 60 days (Registration) Legal name change - TWO weeks LOST OR STOLEN REPORT TO POLICE

Digital Driver License
Altering a driver license or presenting an altered driver license may result in LOSS OF YOUR DRIVING PRIVILEGE A FINE UP TO $1,100 IMPRISONMENT Obtaining a driver license illegally may result is a fine up to $500 and/or imprisonment

6 POINT ID VERIFICATION At least One PRIMARY DOCUMENT
At least One SECONDARY DOCUMENT Total Documents Must Be Worth 6 Points or More Proof of Address Social Security Number

PRIMARY DOCUMENTS - 4 POINTS
Birth Certificate US Passport Current Digital Driver License US adoption papers

SECONDARY – 3 PTS Civil marriage, domestic partnership or civil union certificate Court order for a legal name change Current US military dependent card SECONDARY – 2 PTS US school photo ID card with transcript or school record

PROOF OF ADDRESS Checking or Savings account statement
HS or college transcript containing your address, issued within the past two years Under 18 – Parent or Guardian certification that verifies you are living with them *Mail addressed to PO Boxes is not accepted as proof of address
