Domestic Policies Overview
Reagan’s domestic policy agenda focused on cutting taxes, balancing the budget, withdrawing support for social welfare programs, and returning some powers to the state government.

Federal welfare programs transferred to states; cutbacks in domestic programs (except Soc. Security & Medicare) and taxes, trickle down, with increased spending for Cold War military Supply Side Economics Effect: Huge record budget Deficits, income disparity between rich and poor “Reaganomics”/ Deregulation “privatization’ policy where gov’t assets, like CONRAIL, sold to private investors Deregulation of certain industries leading to environmental damage Social: hands off for Civil Rights movement for African Americans
