Palliative Care – Enabling living
Group Pitch
2
Idea Our idea aims to emphasize the positive affects that palliative care has on the terminally ill, their families and their communities. Our plan is to combine a combination of both live action and still drawings for a creative style that’s meaning is easily understood. The drawings will aim to show the negative isolation the person feels contrasting with the positivity palliative care brings. In our video it will be visually apparent that this person is alone and upset. In a display of surreal visuals (which will be drawn over still shots) their house is dull, run down and overgrown with vines. It all seems gloomy until they hear a door bell. Our Protagonist will then open the door and be greeted by a palliative care worker. The gloominess of their house will begin to disappear, the drawn vines will begin to retreat and colour will begin returning to their home as the carer asks them about their day and brings them food and medicine.

Execution We plan on executing this video by shooting live footage of two actors playing the care worker and the person in need of care in a building that we can access that would be suitable for passing off as someone’s house. For the earlier parts of the video we will digitally draw over the backgrounds of the live footage to create the more surreal gloomy environment representing the isolation and loneliness of the palliative patient. When the care worker comes in through the door this surreal background will be removed through post-production and the latter parts of the video will be entirely live footage. Finally we will record a short audio narration for the closing lines of the video delivering the message about the support that care workers can give in times of isolation and loneliness.

Equipment We will need a DSLR camera with a tripod to shoot the live video. Someone in our group already has a graphics tablet for digital art which can be used for drawing over the live frames in Adobe Photoshop to create the surreal background for the video. . Along with this they also have Adobe Premiere Pro and After FX for the post production process. Finally we will need some kind of audio recording device (i.e. a Marantz audio recorder) for the ending narration but we have a variety of options or this ranging from what the college can provide us with and our own personal equipment.
6
Schedule Seeing as we have roughly around two weeks to complete this video we will need to shoot the live footage asap. This will give us more time to work on the editing and drawing which will take up a majority of our project’s time. Although this will be a tight schedule we feel it is certainly achievable.
7
Crew Between all of us we have various skills to contribute to the different aspects of the video’s production. Within the group our skills cover vast knowledge in post-production software, the ability to operate DSLR cameras, great drawing ability and more. Our group thinks that this idea is very well suited to bringing awareness to the issues faced by palliative care patients and if chosen for this tender we will deliver a video that Compassionate Communities would love to represent their organization.
